Many women get caught up thinking they have to go on some elaborate workout program and diet plan in order to lose the weight quickly, but in many cases, just a few small changes here and there will get the weight coming off easily and very effectively.

Let’s go over some quick tips that you can use starting today to regain your pre-baby body back.

Get Active With Your Baby

get active with baby

First things first, use every opportunity you can to get active with your baby.  Rather than sitting at home with him or her, take them out in a stroller and go for a walk a few times each day.  The great news about this is that the stroller will act as added resistance and will boost your calorie burn.

Want to burn even more calories? Carry your baby on the walk (using the appropriate sling, harness etc).

A fifteen minute brisk walk can easily torch 100-140 calories.  Ask your husband to come along before or after work and make it a great way to spend time together as a family.

Use Nap Time As Strength Training Time

exercise while baby is asleep

Next, whenever your baby is sleeping, use the time to perform a quick strength training based workout.  You really don’t need much more than ten or fifteen minutes to get some full body movements in, so you can easily accomplish this and relax in front of the tv or with your favourite book, before he or she wakes up.

Do a series of walking lunges, push-ups, chair dips, and squats.  Aim for 15 reps each taking as little rest as possible between exercises.  Once all are completed, rest for 30 seconds and perform one more time through.

Focus On Smaller Snacks That Are Protein Based

The third point to remember is to start focusing on eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day.  You likely won’t get much of a chance to sit down and eat a full cooked meal right now protein based snacksanyway but stay away from processed meals. This technique will help keep you energized, keep your calories under control, and prevent you from binging on foods you shouldn’t be eating.

Make sure to get in some dairy as part of these snacks as well as dairy can assist with abdominal fat loss especially.

cook healthy meals in bulkFinally, the last quick tip to remember is to aim to cook larger batches of food all at once.   You aren’t going to have a lot of downtime for cooking purposes right now, so to get around this, grill up a number of chicken breasts when you barbeque (or have your husband do this so you have meals throughout the day while he’s away), cook larger batches of brown rice to store in the fridge, hard boil a dozen eggs, and so on.

The more you can prepare larger batches of food, the easier it will be to eat healthy when hunger strikes.

So there you have some fast tips to help you kick start the weight loss process and rid yourself of your post-pregnancy pounds. To recap:

  • Cook batches of food at once.
  • Eat little and often and try to choose protein sources with each meal. Fist size portion of complex carbs if you have them. Good fats. Veg is free meaning you can eat as much as you like all day. See food chart.
